Katella High School Announces Groundbreaking For New Track , Field & Stadium

Anaheim, CA — Katella High School will celebrate the groundbreaking of its new track, field, and stadium facilities on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Katella High School, 2200 E. Wagner Ave., Anaheim, CA 92806.

The project will provide students and student-athletes with modern facilities, including a professional-grade all-weather track, synthetic turf field, dedicated areas for track and field events, and spaces supporting soccer and marching band. The stadium will also feature seating for approximately 1,500 spectators and is being designed to host CIF competitions, expanding opportunities for athletics, performances, and community events at Katella High School.

“This state-of-the-art all-weather track and turf field represents far more than just a facility upgrade; it’s an investment in our students’ potential,” said Chuck Hernandez, Principal of Katella High School. “For years, our student-athletes have competed with relentless grit and heart, regardless of the surface under their feet. This beautiful new stadium puts Katella on an equal playing field with schools throughout Orange County. It gives our Knights the championship-level facility they have always deserved and demonstrates to our entire community that our students come first.”

“This groundbreaking represents an exciting new chapter for Katella High School and the entire Knight community,” said AUHSD Board of Trustees President Jessica Guerrero. “Our students deserve facilities that reflect their talent, dedication, and aspirations. This investment will create new opportunities for generations of students to compete, perform, connect, and take pride in their school, and we are grateful to everyone who helped make this project possible.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will feature remarks from project and District representatives, along with performances by Katella High School’s band and cheer program.

The project was approved by the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Trustees as part of the District’s continued investment in facilities that support student achievement, athletics, the arts, and school communities. Katella High School and AUHSD extend their appreciation to everyone whose work and support helped make this milestone possible.
